Problem: The nation faces a severe teacher shortage, worsened by the increasing number of students entering public schools. Compounding this issue is the lack of minority educators, despite clear evidence that all students benefit from diverse teaching perspectives. This shortage hinders educational equity and diminishes the richness of students' learning experiences.
To address this, the presentation Jocelyn Martin developed in partnership with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore faculty was designed to inspire teachers to move beyond “acting” in the classroom and instead embrace their true, authentic selves. By doing so, it aimed to cultivate a new generation of educators who are both deeply committed to their profession and reflective of the diverse student populations they serve.
